The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy in Sri Lanka, one of the main shrines of the island.
According to legend, after the cremation of Buddha, four teeth were taken from the fire and distributed around the world. After several centuries in India, the relic was sent to Ceylon by the fourth ruler of Kalinga, who suffered defeats in wars and feared for the fate of his state. The relic was transported to the island by the ruler's daughter, who hid it in her hair.

The splendor of the Temple of the Tooth Relic is astounding! The main treasure of the temple is the sacred tooth of Buddha, which, according to legend, was brought to the island in the 4th century. Legend has it that this tooth is kept in a golden relic, which can be seen during special ceremonies. The atmosphere of the temple is filled with silence, reverence and the aroma of incense, which makes every visit truly unforgettable.
Every year, the Temple becomes the center of the famous Esala Perahera festival - an amazing spectacle with traditional dances, processions and decorated elephants. People from all over the world come to be a part of this unique holiday!
